The Palace is built by Balyan Family architects following the order of Sultan Abdulmecid. Balyan family members used to be the Chief Palace Architects throughout the 19th century.
The family members were educated in France and studied the features of European architecture. Therefore the Baroque & Neo-Classic influence can be seen on their works.
Yet, they did not forget to mix some Turkish traditional motives in their style. Thus they created numerous buildings along the Bosphorus shores with their unique eclectic style.
Members of Balyan family, adorned the Bosphorus shores with beautiful mosques, palaces and pavillions. Three great palaces of Bosphorus: Dolmabahçe, Beylerbeyi and Çırağan had built by them.

Where is the Palace? How to Get There?
Dolmabahce Palace is located in the modern city center. It is accessible from the old city by tram. Tram T1 line of Istanbul works very well to reach out Dolmabahce Palace from the Sultanahmet (Old City).
You need to take the Tram T1 from Sultanahmet Old City in the direction of Kabatas (Kabataş). Kabatas is considered as the last stop of the tram. Journey from Sultanahmet to Kabatas would probably take 15 minutes. Once you arrive to the terminal stop, you need to walk to Dolmabahce Palace for just 5-10 additional minutes.
The Dolmabahce Palace is located between the Taksim and Besiktas districts. It’s very centrally located. You can easily recognise the location of the Palace by the Besiktas Soccer Team’s Vodafone Arena Stadium. They are located next to each other.
If you are staying in a hotel near to Taksim Square, you need to take the funicular to get to seaside. This is just one stop vehicle to reach from Taksim Square to Kabatas area. Once you get to Kabatas it’s pretty easy to find the palace.
Dolmabahce Palace Entry Ticket Price
Admission fee is 90 Turkish Lira for a regular visit to Dolmabahce Palace Offices & Reception Rooms. If you would like to visit the Harem (Privy Chambers) you need to buy an extra ticket for 60 TL. You will be able to visit the Clock Museum and Glass Pavillion with this extra ticket.
There is an additional section inside the complex which is called Museum of Palace Collections. You need to pay 30 Turkish Lira additional price to visit that section where the paintings are displayed.

No, Istanbul Museum Pass is not valid for Dolmabahce Palace. Istanbul Museum Card is valid for the museums which are connected to Tourism & Culture Ministry. Dolmabahce & Beylerbeyi Palaces, Basilica Cistern and Galata Tower run by different authorities. Therefore the card is not valid for these museums.
